Sustainable construction: BIO4EEB 6th General Assembly and Advisory Board in Valencia

July 22, 2025

On 30 June and 1 July 2025, the European Builders Confederation joined partners from the Horizon Europe project BIO4EEB – BIO insulation materials for Enhancing the Energy performance of Buildings for the 6th General Assembly in Valencia. Hosted by AIMPLAS – Technological Institute of Plastics, the twoday meeting offered an intensive programme of updates, technical discussions and strategic outlooks on biobased insulation solutions for buildings

The general assembly opened with an overview of recent achievements across the consortium’s five realworld demo sites and three virtual demonstrations. Project partners presented the also the BIO4EEB platform and the progress made in it. Together, they explored pathways to bring seagrassbased panels, polyelectrolyte coatings, PLA foams and bioPU windows closer to commercial uptake.

A highlight of the Assembly was participation by the BIO4EEB Advisory Board. As reported on LinkedIn and BIO4EEB communications, Graziano Salvalai, Marta Maria Sesana and Martijn Droesbeke joined the meeting to share their insights and guide the project’s next phase. Their contributions reinforced the strategic focus of technical developments and replication efforts ahead of the final project years.

Delegates were also given a behindthescenes tour of the AIMPLAS facilities. This visit underlined AIMPLAS’s role in piloting sustainable materials design from biopolyurethane foam validation to fireperformance evaluations and labscale upscaling for façade integration.

EBC remains committed to steer project dissemination, connecting outcomes with SMEs, national associations and EU policy frameworks. With these collaborative efforts, EBC supports the accelerated adoption of biobased insulation solutions that weave together energy efficiency with circular economy principles.
