Standardisation: SBS dedicates Annual Event to Empowering SMEs in Renewables next 20 November

October 28, 2025

As a co-founder of the organisation, EBC is pleased to promote the 2025 Annual Event of Small Business Standards (SBS), which will take place on Thursday, 20 November at ACE Events in Brussels. The day will begin with a networking lunch, giving participants the opportunity to connect with standardisation peers, experts, and policymakers, followed by the main conference “Small business, big energy: Empowering SMEs in renewables” in the afternoon.

This year’s event will focus on the main challenges and opportunities for SMEs arising from the renewable energy transition, providing a unique platform to exchange ideas and develop strategies to shape the future of the sector.

The conference will build upon a recent study by Small Business Standards (SBS), titled Empowering SMEs in the Renewable Energy Sector. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the role of SMEs in the renewable energy value chain, from solar and wind to hydrogen and biofuels, and highlights opportunities for their involvement in key standardisation bodies.

The study reveals that SMEs are actively engaged in various stages of the renewable energy supply chain, including installation, manufacturing, and maintenance, and emphasizes the importance of their participation in standardisation processes to ensure that their needs and perspectives are considered in the development of industry standards.

Using the study as a foundation, participants will discuss how SMEs can strengthen their engagement in standardisation, foster collaboration across stakeholders, and take concrete steps to innovate, scale, and contribute to Europe’s energy transition. Two main panels will guide the discussions:

  • The first will explore the role of SMEs in the renewable energy value chain and identify strategies to attract technical experts into standardisation committees, reinforcing the presence of SMEs in shaping industry standards.
  • The second panel will focus on energy efficiency in construction, covering technologies such as solar photovoltaics, wind energy, heat pumps, and hydrogen, and examining how standards can influence building performance and sustainability.

The event will conclude with a session presenting a roadmap developed during the conference, offering participants the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and discuss next steps.

By highlighting the pivotal role of SMEs, the event underscores how these businesses are not only adopters of sustainable technologies but active contributors shaping standards and regulations, accelerating the deployment of innovative solutions across Europe.

Do not miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation, network with industry leaders, and help drive the renewable energy transition!
