Co-financed by the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme SUM4Re – Creating Materials Banks from Digital Urban Mining. The project integrates advanced technology and sustainability practices to boost the circularity uptake

Co-financed by Horizon Europe, SUM4Re – Creating Materials Banks from Digital Urban Mining – aims to enhance circularity in the construction sector by creating materials banks through smart urban mining. Running from June 2024 to November 2027 with a budget of EUR 6 million, SUM4Re involves 16 partners across nine countries led by the Universidad de Vigo in Spain.

The project focuses on identifying, analysing, and optimizing materials salvaged from existing buildings using advanced technologies like AI, BIM, and remote sensing, also through pilot projects in Spain, the Netherlands, and Norway to demonstrate the project’s approaches.

By developing tools to assess material reusability and establishing supportive economic, environmental, and legal frameworks, SUM4Re seeks to reduce waste, boost secondary material supply, and promote innovative business models in the context of the transition of the construction sector towards more sustainability.

 EBC will facilitate contact with different SME construction companies to involve them in different phases of the project, such as the Technology Acceptance Study for Circular Economy Project and the trainings/workshops activities. Moreover, EBC is involved in liaison activities, and the overall communication and dissemination of the findings.
