On 4 December 2024, the European Council for Construction Research, Development, and Innovation (ECCREDI) convened at Buildwise in Limelette, Belgium, for a day of discussions and exploration cantered on advancing innovation and sustainability in the construction sector.
A key highlight of the meeting was the visit to the Buildwise Experience Center, located on their research campus in Limelette. The centre offers a unique opportunity to explore a broad range of advanced technologies that are reshaping the construction landscape. Participants experienced first-hand how automation, robotics, and industrialisation are being integrated into the construction process, from initial design phases to on-site execution. Highlights included demonstrations of exoskeletons designed to improve worker safety and productivity, 3D printing technology capable of revolutionising construction methodologies, and state-of-the-art camera-to-BIM tools that streamline digital modelling workflows. These innovations showcased the potential for companies of all sizes to enhance efficiency, precision, and sustainability in their operations.
The council meeting also served as a platform for exchanging ideas on ongoing research projects and strategic directions, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration across the sector. Participants discussed initiatives aimed at promoting material recovery, recycling, and circularity, as well as strategies for integrating digital technologies into waste management and selective demolition.
By hosting this dynamic event, ECCREDI reaffirmed its commitment to driving research, innovation, and collaboration across the construction sector.
EBC has been a member of ECCREDI since 2018, in order to maintain a continuous dialogue with key players in the field of research, digitalisation and innovation, with the common aim of bringing real added value to small construction companies.
