As we entered the new 2024-2029 mandate for the EU institutions, it’s vital to acknowledge the construction sector’s crucial contribution in shaping a sustainable and inclusive Europe. And the pivotal role of the micro and small companies that represent 95% of all construction businesses. Contributing around 10% of the EU’s GDP and employing 15 million people, the sector is not only central to the economy but also key to achieving the European Green Deal’s goals and enhancing EU competitiveness.
Under the new leaderships in Brussels, there is a new focus on sustainable competitiveness, with special attention to construction. The sector’s micro and small enterprises, vital to local economies, are key actors to face significant challenges, from housing crises to the need for energy-efficient buildings or quality jobs shortages. And with challenges, there are also opportunities to grow and improve.
New initiatives like the announced Clean Industrial Deal or the European Affordable Housing Plan emphasize the need to support construction SMEs by addressing regulatory instability, administrative burdens and ensuring access to finance. This event at the European Parliament will explore how the construction sector can lead Europe’s green transition, boost local jobs, and tackle the housing crisis. In collaboration with committed EU institutions and stakeholders willing to join us in shaping the path forward for empowered construction SMEs and a sustainable built environment.
