EBC welcomes the International Association of Painting Contractors UNIEP as new member

On 18 June, during its annual General Assembly, the European Builders Confederation EBC members unanimously approved the membership request from the International Association of Painting Contractors UNIEP. Initially, UNIEP will hold an observer status for the remainder of the year, transition to associate member status starting January 2025.

UNIEP President Mr. Helmut Schulz presented the affiliation request along with an overview of the organisation’s ambitions and main activities to EBC members during the assembly.

Representing over 60,000 companies through its 21 affiliated members in 15 European countries, UNIEP advocates for around 280,000 professional painters. Since its establishment in 1953, UNIEP has been dedicated to defending the interests of the painting sector, working towards improving the image of painter and decorator professions across Europe and internationally.

UNIEP has recently been active in communication and lobbying efforts, as well as participating in EU-funded projects focused on enhancing skills, vocational training, tutorship, apprentice mobility, and apprenticeship schemes. These initiatives aim to equip the painting sector with the necessary skillsets to thrive in a competitive market.

Mr. Helmut Schulz stated: “I am pleased that the members of EBC approved the application for UNIEP’s membership. For the members of UNIEP, cooperation with EBC is very important. Together with EBC, we will be able to fight more vigorously for the painting trade in Europe in the future.”

EBC President Philip van Nieuwenhuizen mentioned: “UNIEP’s willingness to strengthen its relationship with EBC after many years of sectoral collaboration highlights the added-value of having a dedicated voice for micro and small companies in the construction sector at the EU level. This new partnership will create more opportunities for exchanging expertise on painting, construction, and SME matters, to influence the policy-making process in favour of our sector.”

EBC is pleased to welcome UNIEP as a member and looks forward to fostering stronger synergies that will benefit of construction SMEs and crafts across Europe.
