The European Council for Construction Research, Development, and Innovation (ECCREDI) convened on 20 June 2024 for its council meeting at the Belgian private research institute Buildwise in Zaventem, near Brussels. The meeting addressed key strategic initiatives and ongoing projects impacting the construction industry, from the perspective of innovation, research and sustainability.
A significant portion of the gathering was dedicated to updating the ECCREDI Strategy Document dating of 2018, to ensure that the Council’s direction aligns with evolving industry needs and legislative developments.
This was followed by a series of presentations followed on the Built4People Innovation Cluster Network by the European Construction Technology Platform ECTP, concrete and sustainability by the European Concrete Societies Network ECSN, and tensioned membrane construction by the Tensinet Association.
The highlight of the day was a visit to the Buildwise Digital Democenter, which provides Belgian construction stakeholders with insights into cutting-edge digital advancements in construction. The potential of several technologies and concepts, notably artificial intelligence, including Copilot and ChatGPT, but also 360° cameras and drones, were showcased and discussed by the participants.
EBC has been a member of ECCREDI since 2018, in order to maintain a continuous dialogue with key players in the field of research, digitalisation and innovation, with the common aim of bringing real added value to small construction companies.
