Construction 4.0: BEEYONDERS partners met in Genoa to discuss next steps

The latest General Assembly of the Horizon Europe project BEEYONDERS, Breakthrough European tEchnologies Yielding cOnstruction sovereigNty, Diversity & Efficiency of ResourceS, concluded recently in Genoa, marking significant strides in the project’s implementation and future direction. Spanning three days from May 20 to 22 2024, the event was hosted by the Italian multidisciplinary engineering firm STAM and brought together the project partners and technical leaders to engage in detailed discussions, presentations, and planning sessions.

The meeting began with a warm welcome and introduction by the project coordinator ACCIONA. The day was packed with detailed presentations, notably on specifications and Testing of technologies and exploitation & market Watch tasks, which highlighted advancements in technology exploitation and market analysis. Then the discussion focused on worker-centric technologies to enhance health, safety, and well-being, showcasing the project’s commitment to the human factor. Then, the partners navigated the case studies, the use of digital twins and the integration of autonomous vehicles and collaborative robotics, respectively.

The next challenges lie in the implementation of the human-centric technology developed into 6 pilot scenarios in multiple infrastructure typologies across different countries: a building construction case in Finland; maritime construction cases in Spain and the Netherlands; a road construction and maintenance cases in Italy; and a tunnel construction case in Spain. As usual, EBC’s role in the project is mainly to lead the liaison activities, which play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining connections with related national and international projects. EBC’s leadership in this task was instrumental in identifying potential sister projects and fostering collaborations that are critical for the project’s broader exploitation strategy. At a later stage, EBC will also lead the development of the training activities related to the Beeyonders technologies for end-users and stakeholders.

As BEEYONDERS moves forward, the outcomes of this General Assembly in Italy marks a halfway mark in the process that will undoubtedly influence the next phases of the project, with activities leaning to an increasing implementation and testing. The continued collaboration and dedication of all partners aims at propelling BEEYONDERS towards significant achievements in Construction 4.0.
