Advancing faster than any innovation in human history, digital technologies are transforming our society and our daily lives. For workers and employers in all sectors, digital technology offers increased opportunities but also presents greater challenges and risks in terms of safety and health. For these reasons, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) is running a new Europe-wide campaign titled “Safe and healthy work in the digital age” from 2023 to 2025 with the aim of raising awareness, providing practical resources and bringing stakeholders together, in line with the European Commission’s Vision Zero approach to promote a prevention culture.
The Healthy Workplaces Campaigns aligns with the efforts to raise awareness of occupational safety and health throughout Europe, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises and vulnerable groups of workers. More in detail, the running campaign targets five priority areas: digital platform work, advanced robotics and artificial intelligence, remote work, smart digital systems, and worker management through artificial intelligence.
In addition to monitoring the commitment of campaign partners, EU-OSHA has produced a range of promotional and informational materials and will organise or support awareness-raising events and initiatives. Highlights include good practice exchange events and the Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards, the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, the campaign summit, and the Healthy Workplaces Film Award.
In this context, EBC has become an official partner of this new edition of EU-OSHA Healthy Workplace campaign . Indeed, optimal health and safety conditions for workers is a must in the construction sector, which relies heavily on human know-how, also in the era of digitalisation. Through internal dialogues on national and local good practice in the digital field, the participation in relevant fora by hands-on construction SME representatives, or open exchanges with leaders in health and safety and digital policymaking and research, EBC will strive to provide tailored support and advice to SMEs in the construction sector. To continue to strengthen the culture of risk prevention, create less burdensome and less risky work environments, and improve the digital literacy of professionals, EBC intends to make full use of its online communication channels to ensure that the campaign reaches construction SMEs and crafts across Europe.
