Energy efficiency: EBC invited to discuss EPBD with the BUILD UP Board of Ambassadors

Since its launch back in 2009, BUILD UP has become the reference portal for energy efficiency in buildings in Europe. Under the umbrella of the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), this web portal aims at creating links among buildings professionals, by ensuring a collaborative approach through knowledge and expertise sharing, while also providing up-to-date information on regulations, market uptake, research, and innovation.

The EU’s largest platform for energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings has created a Board of Ambassadors, made of national experts to share energy and construction knowledge at European and national level. This group of experts working across relevant institutions and organisations acts as a sounding board, advising on matters in their fields of expertise, contributing to the development and production of relevant content for the portal, while also representing BUILD UP in local communities, to create links at national level.

This year, the BUILD UP Board of Ambassadors 2023 met in Brussels last 23 October, for in-depth conversations with CINEA and a selected group of stakeholders on the revision Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). EBC Secretary General Fernando Sigchos Jiménez was invited to this exchange, next to representatives of the European Heat Pump Association EHPA, the European Building Automation and Controls Association EU.BAC, and the European Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations REHVA.

The conversation focused on the EU’s horizontal energy ambitions, the lack of skilled labour in the construction sector, the green transition of buildings, some of the technical building systems reviewed by the EPBD, the need for a trusted local guidance system on energy renovation (such as all-inclusive one-stop-shops) and many other concepts and tools needed to deliver the Renovation Wave and EU Green Deal.

EBC looks forward to the conclusion of the trilogue negotiations on the EPBD revision, a critical file for a clear and implementable framework for energy efficient renovation that enables construction SMEs to deliver better buildings for European citizens.
