On 5 and 6 December 2022, EBC attended in Amsterdam the second in-person meeting of the newly launched European project CondoReno – Creating and Multiplying Integrated Home Renovation Services for private condominiums in the Netherlands and Flanders, co-financed by the LIFE programme for the next four years. The 10 partners from the Netherlands, Belgium and France were hosted in the Dutch capital at the premises of the public-private research centre AMS Institute – Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions.
The meeting focused on the discussion of different approaches to Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) for condominium associations (CAs). While the Belgian cities of Antwerpen, Mechelen, and Oostende presented the state of play of IRHS in Flanders, based on their experiences and research, Stichting WoonlastenNeutraal Renoveren presented its business model in the Netherlands, and finally the Agence Parisienne du Climat outlined the situation for France.
The second day focused on the technical assessment of KPIs within CondoReno, with exchanges on the different methodologies for calculating and registering energy and environmental KPIs in the Netherlands and Flanders. The meeting ended with an interesting site visit to a demonstration apartment in Reigersbos, where a partner is carrying out a live renovation project.
Building on these experiences and knowledge sharing, the project intends to create six IHRS for buildings co-owned by multiple private homeowners, targeting Condominium Associations and aiming to achieve label A energy renovations, in the wake of the clean energy transition of the European Union.
Initially, activities will be concentrated in the Netherlands and Flanders, while at a later stage EBC and the International Union of Property Owners UIPI leading the replication of the CondoReno models in other EU countries, targeting local contractors – especially construction SMEs, the main players in the renovation market – and property owners.
