The European Builders Confederation (EBC) is the voice of construction crafts and SMEs in Europe, a European trade association composed of national associations, standing for construction micro, small and medium-sized companies before the European Institutions. With its offices in Brussels, we are looking for a pro-active and motivated Technical Officer. EBC is a founding member of Small Business Standards (SBS), the European organisation standing for SMEs in standardisation at the European and International level.
Your profile
The successful candidate will be a motivated, talented, and very flexible professional, with at least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience. She/he will have a technical academic background, preferably engineering or architecture, or a policy/legal background with experience dealing with technical issues. A first experience with standards is a strong asset, would it be in a standards-developing organisation, as an expert in a technical committee, or managing standardisation related activities within a European association. Experience in coordinating and dealing with technical experts is also an asset.
Knowledge of the EU legal and standardisation framework concerning construction is preferable, especially of the Construction Products Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 and the European Standardisation Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012. The ability to present in a simple manner and summarise complex technical issues and topics is a must.
Excellent communication skills in English are required; proficient knowledge of another European language is a relevant asset. The candidate will be able to both work independently and as part of a team, taking responsibility, showing ownership, and going beyond her/his tasks. The right candidate is familiar with the Brussels working environment and knows how to target relevant audience.
Your role
The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the EBC Secretariat but devoting her/his full time to SBS activities. She/he will report directly to the EBC Secretary General and work in close contact with the SBS team.
The EBC Technical Officer will be mainly focused on three tasks: implement the work program for the construction sectorial approach of SBS; develop and promote technical/policy positions on construction issues for EBC and SBS; and coordinate SBS technical experts.
Her/his tasks also include:
- convening and preparing technical meetings
- drafting and revising technical reports and proposing relevant follow-up actions
- representing EBC and SBS in technical fora
- liaising with the European Commission, CEN-CENELEC and other relevant stakeholders
- monitoring, analysing and evaluating EU legislative documents and technical/policy developments

- writing articles for the EBC and SBS communication channels
- contributing to the EBC and SBS administrative duties
What we offer
EBC offers a long-term contract to the successful candidate. The gross monthly salary will be fixed according to professional experience; lunch vouchers are also provided. The position respects a work-life balance, and awards satisfaction, responsibilities, and potential for growth to a resolute professional. EBC offers the possibility to partially work from home, though we expect Brussels to be your main location of work.
The starting date for the successful candidate is 1 March 2022.
