Brussels, 15 December 2021 – The European Builders Confederation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has selected Fernando Sigchos Jiménez to be its new Secretary General, effective 1 January 2022. Mr. Sigchos Jiménez will succeed in this position Eugenio Quintieri.
Mr. Sigchos Jiménez has been working at EBC since 2013. Starting as a trainee, he has developed an all-around profile, polishing his skills as a Policy Officer for Social Affairs and, more recently, as the EBC Project and Communication Manager. Furthermore, he has been active in the European Economic and Social Committee since 2017 as an Alternate Member. Mr Sigchos Jiménez holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.
After joining EBC in 2017, Eugenio Quintieri led the organisation to a strategic position in the sector and Europe, while also improving its internal structure. Eugenio established numerous partnerships with construction stakeholders and European institutions and worked to limit the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the sector. Mr Quintieri has been appointed Managing Director of Fire Safe Europe effective 1 January 2022.
Eugenio Quintieri commented: “Over the past 4 years, I had the honour and the pleasure to be the spokesperson of construction SMEs in Europe and give my contribution to very important results for our beautiful sector: the built environment is now high on the list of political priorities of the European Union. This was possible thanks to the intense work of the wonderful EBC team as well as the many alliances with industry stakeholders and European institutions. Fernando – a person who I admire and trust – will continue and improve this crucial work for the transformation of the construction ecosystem.”
On behalf of the whole EBC Board of Directors, Mr Rinaldo Incerpi, President of EBC, said: “Many challenges await Fernando, but his knowledge of our structures, our files and the Brussels and European scenes enable our Board to hand over the keys of the EBC Secretariat to him with complete confidence. His presence is a guarantee of continuity and stability, but also of ambition, as we are convinced of his ability to get the best out of the organisation and the EBC team. It goes without saying that we are very grateful to Eugenio for the work he has done over the past 4 years, enhancing the importance of EBC as a major player in the European construction industry.”
