SBS experts meet to discuss the Construction Products Regulation and sustainability

Small Business Standards (SBS) held its annual Construction forum on 22 October 2019. Organised by the European Builders Confederation (EBC), in its role of coordinator for SBS construction-related activities, this year’s edition was divided into two sessions; one focusing on the recent developments regarding the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and one focusing on the upcoming implementation of Basic Requirement for Construction Works 7 “Sustainable use of natural resources” of the CPR. On this occasion, SBS experts met with DG GROW, CEN/CENELEC and Construction Products Europe representatives in order to exchange on these topics.

The forum began with explanations and debates on the latest progress concerning the harmonised standards consultants’ system and its legal background, the Joint Initiative Action 5 “Aiding the implementation of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) through standards” and the Smart CE Marking.

Then, the latest developments concerning EN 15804 “Sustainability of construction works. Environmental product declarations. Core rules for the product category of construction products” and matters to be addressed for a sensible/possible implementation were at the heart of the discussions.

EBC is committed to standardisation, a topic of great importance for its SMEs and construction craftsmen. The SBS construction forum is an excellent opportunity to be updated on and exchange about the various developments related to the standardisation process and to the CPR.
