Strengthening ties with Baltic construction SMEs

On 19 September, EBC Secretary General Eugenio Quintieri met in Riga with representatives of the Latvian Builders Association, long-standing EBC member. On this occasion, the organisations exchanged on the importance of developing digital tools adapted to construction SMEs and the need of upskilling workers to meet the digitalisation challenge. Moreover, EBC had the opportunity to witness the extraordinary results of the “Latvian Building Prize 2018” aimed at awarding modern building techniques and effective campaigns to improve the image of the construction sector.

On 20 September, EBC participated to the 5th meeting of The EU-funded project NETconVET (Network for future innovation of major competences in vocational education and training in construction) in Vilnius. The project aims at facilitating exchanges about the development of VET-business partnerships, with the ultimate goal to promote work-based learning in all its forms.

The consortium consists of 5 VET-centres, 1 university, 1 think-tank and the European Builders Confederation, discussing how target groups (learners, companies and VET-trainers, entrepreneurs and pupils) get into, stay and cope with market needs in VET, with a special focus on transition into/within/out of VET, work-based learning, digital competences, and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

At the occasion of its 4th meeting, the Vilnius Builders Training Centre welcomed all project partners to discuss about the best techniques to “train-the-trainers” of VET centres in the field of digital construction. The next – and final – meeting in NETconVET will take place at Fundación Laboral de la Construcción in Madrid on 15 January 2020.
