EBC talks about Labour Mobility at a European Policy Centre workshop

Today the European Policy Centre organised a workshop titled “Implications of the internal market for European workers: challenges or opportunities?” to discuss about Labour Mobility. This is one of the priorities of the current Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Jean-Pierre Waeytens (from the Belgian EBC member BOUWUNIE) represented EBC and brought a sectorial input from the construction sector. The debate also counted with contributions from academicians, intersectorial social partners, DG EMPL and several Member states representatives.
Mr. Waeytens underlined the need of setting concrete measures against social dumping as construction SMEs are facing everyday unfair competition and workers suffer from work practices abuses. He reminded that EBC wrote an open letter to Commissioner Thyssen in October 2015 to ask for the revision of the 1996 directive on posting of workers.
EBC hopes that the delay of the Mobility Package will not prevent discussions on this topic during the Dutch presidency.
