In July 2014, EDF proposed to EBC to join an ad-hoc coalition focusing on the EU policy towards energy efficiency. On 23 September 2014 the group presented a joint Declaration on “Delivering the EU Energy Efficiency ambition – solutions from Industry”.
The event took place just before a Council Energy working group meeting and gathered several MEPs, members of permanent representations as well as representatives from the European Commission. The message delivered by the group is that the EU energy efficiency policy must be more consumer-oriented and led by market-based approaches and not only by obligations.
The document also underlines that existing buildings represent a huge potential still untapped for energy efficiency and that financial tools are needed to overcome the current failure of the financial markets.
