Standardisation

Standardisation is the main access to the Internal Market for most products, services and production processes that must demonstrate their compliance with European legislation through the CE marking.

Construction is one of the most affected sectors in the standards-making process. Currently 600 harmonised standards and 1500 test method standards pertain to construction products. EBC is therefore very active in this field.

EBC is a founding member and project partner of Small Business Standards, the association representing SMEs in the standard making process.

Two of the SBS construction-sector experts are from EBC. Expert Riccardo Viaggi follows standardisation activities on energy performance of buildings (CEN TC 371), whereas expert Guido Sabatini follows standardisation developments of Building Information Modelling (CEN TC 442).

EBC also sits on the Standing Committee on Construction, which was set up by the Construction Products Regulation.
